Hey guys

In line with your feedback and the phenomenal explosion of Twitter, we’ve just released an all new Twitter 2.0 Add-on for fring, with stacks of new features to excite your fingers and thumbs even more.

You can view other Twitter profiles, check-out your own followers and see who’s following you.

A new keyword search enables you to keep on top of a particular topic, and with our cool new look and feel and you can also open links like Tiny URL’s in your incoming Tweets.

Finally, something that loads of you have asked for, you can switch-off the beep sound when you receive Tweets, so it will just Twitter away silently without interrupting you every couple of seconds.

There are two ways to get your hands on the new Twitter 2.0 Add-on… If you have a Windows Mobile, just go to the Add-ons tab inside fring, unsubscribe from the old Twitter & re-subscribe to the new Add-on. And if you’re a Symbian handset owner, simply download the new fring version 3.37 first, unsubscribe from the old Twitter & re-subscribe to the new Add-on.

And there’s more…fring has also released the source code to the new Twitter 2.0 Add-on, and additional add-ons. Now, the web develop community can see fring API in action, re-use the code and mashup their own social experiences with fring.

BPL Mobile is now Loop Mobile

BPL Mobile Communications, the oldest mobile telecom service provider in the country, has changed its name to Loop Mobile. This initiation is in reaction to the expiry of its brand-use agreement with the TPG Nambiar-owned BPL Group.

“Loop is an extension of an ongoing campaign, ‘Get in the Loop’, and will be easy for subscribers to identify with the rebranding. The new name signifies a vibrant company and appeals to the youth of the country,” said BPL Mobile Director and CEO Sanjeev Chachondia. He added, the new logo of Loop Mobile has been designed keeping in mind the youthful vitality, excitement and freshness that the company stands for.

It is planning a multi-hued campaign — green, purple, pink and blue — for the new brand, as against the conventional mode of a company trying to identify itself with a single hue.

BSNL - MTNL may halt 3G services

It’s possible that the idea of 3G-equipped towns and cities will be short-lived.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked the two state-owned telecom service providers, MTNL and BSNL, to pause 3G services until there’s a strong infrastructure built to be able to handle devices that support 3G services. According to a report in The Times of India, executives of the telcommunication services say that even as they work towards improving 3G security issues, they will continue to offer 3G services. Let’s see how the telcos and the DoT go about this.

Number Portability in India Gets One Step Closer

Much-awaited Mobile Number Portability (MNP) looks to finally arrive. US-headquartered Syniverse Technologies said that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has approached them with a Letter of Intent (LoT) for implementation of MNP services in India.

Syniverse & Telcordia Technologies are the two companies selected to provide number portability clearance. Both these companies will provide a number portability clearing house and centralized database solutions to telecom operators for the next 10 years.

DoT has already divided the country into two zones for number portability implementation, each of which will be handled by a different MNP provider. Each zone is further broken down into 11 service areas that represent cities within the zone. Syniverse will implement services for the first zone that covers the northern and western regions of the country.

Syniverse has previously implemented MNP in Singapore, the United States, Canada, and Hong Kong.
