Mobile Asia 2008 in Delhi

The Mobile Asia 2008 exhibition kicks off today, it is being held in our country’s capital; Delhi. The exhibition will last till the 3rd of March. The event will give exhibitors to showcase products and technologies they have developed or are developing for the NextGen. Just to name a few among those displaying their products and services; Airtel, ASUS, i-mate, Intex, LG, Molife, Motorola, Nokia, Nuance, Radical Software, RPG Cellucom, Samsung, SanDisk, Sony Ericsson, Vodafone, World Phone and World Space Radio. This event will be beneficial for users through the offers of various products and services that will be available at the event. The products that will be showcased will more likely be aimed at the younger generation which is an emerging segment of the market.

fringing freedom extends to UIQ

Not long before we announced the addition of few fringing freedom features which were only supported for Symbian devices but as promised we have now extended it to UIQ as well. Here is a low-down of features in the latest fring v3.30 for UIQ.

1. file transfer – swap files with any other fringster or PC buddy (currently MSN only, but more to come shortly)

2. chat improvements – you spoke, we listened and using your ideas and suggestions we’ve created new fring chat feature, making the experience even closer to your PC chat sessions - give it a try - you won’t be sorry.

3. fring is now available in English, French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Italian, Russian – what can I say ? You asked for it, we translated it ;-)

BTW: fring will automatically install the default language based on the handset language; you can always go to the More –> settings menu to change language

4. privacy setting – your privacy is important to us! We’ve enhanced your privacy settings (you can now choose to show/hide your signature on PC IM clients as well as control mood message & switch them on/off )

5. fringtons & vibrate: bring on the tunes. Want to change fringtones ? Go to our fringtones page to check out and download free ringtones to your handset (or simply choose one already loaded into the music library on your device)

Sony Ericsson W910: Best Handset 2007

At the 13th Annual Global Mobile Awards the Sony Ericsson W910 won the award for the Best Mobile Handset/Device category.

The competition was tough with nominees, LG KU990 Viewty, Nokia 6500 Classic, Samsung G600 & 3 Skypephone alongside the W910. As per the judges the W910 was a winner because of its all-rounder capabilities. Its ease-of-use design has gained it quite the acceptance world-wide.

The 3 Skypephone got consolation prize for its extremely good VFM (Value-for-Money) handset as it’s the one of the first handsets to provide such a feature list at its price.

Apple MacBook Air Launched

The MacBook Air was earlier announced to the world at the MacWorld 2008 by Apple Chief, Steve Jobs. Now for the first time in India the latest iteration of Apple notebook has been launched.

The MacBook Air features a 13.3-inches LED back-lit wide-screen display, Intel Core 2 Duo processor, Intel’s 965GMS chipset with integrated Gfx, a 1.8-inch 80GB 4,200rpm HDD, and 2GB RAM. It also sports a built-in iSight Web cam, and a track-pad instead of the conventional touch-pad that works just like the touch-interface like that of the iPhone or iPod Touch. The MacBook Air has been priced at Rs.96,100 with a one with a one year limited warranty.

Quick fix: Version 3.30.6

Just a few days back we got you fring v3.30 & we have already updated fring to v3.30.6.

The version 3.30 had a minor issue with Wi-Fi connectivity which has been addressed in the latest v3.30.6. Thanks to the quick valuable feedback. Keep them coming and let us know your experience on the new features.

fringing freedom enhanced: File Transfer X Mobile (WiFi + 3G)

We have been eagerly waiting to announce our support for file transfer/sharing. Well the wait is over; presenting the latest version fring v3.30. You can now swap music, pictures, video clips and other files via fring over WiFi or 3G from mobile to mobile and mobile to PC! :D It’s quick, reliable and of course free! ;-) No need for MMS, cable, Bluetooth or Infrared. Thanks for your valuable feedback and we welcome the feedback on your file sharing experiences.

Please Note: file transfer is currently available between fring-to-fring, fring-to-MSN only, and is supports only Symbian 9.x Nokia Series 60 handsets. We’ll keep you posted as-n-when it is made available across other mobile platforms.

 

fring v3.30 also brings couple more updates:

  1. Multi-lingual - available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian & Chinese. It automatically installs in your handset’s default language unless you choose another language from the settings menu.
  2. Chat enriched – with display features & icons to let you know when your buddy is typing, improved navigation between concurrent chats & more…(Chat shortcut! joystick-in when you select a buddy in the main screen opens the chat tab)

fringing freedom at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

Avi Shechter, the CEO of fring has been invited to speak at the Mobile World Congress on the morning of Wednesday 13th February 2008, in Barcelona. The topic of his talk: “Mobile VoIP - friend not foe of the network operator.

Given the subject matter and fring’s leadership position in mobile VoIP and mobile internet communities, it was a thought provoking session with new perspectives sparking various discussions.

Avi also shared his vision for the next 12 months and beyond, with particular focus on how fring believes consumers will start to re-think the way they use their mobile devices.

fring was also invited by Nokia to join the Nokia forum stand, on the second level of the main Nokia stand in Hall 8 of the Mobile World Congress 2008. fring was demonstarted in the stands and also new and exciting features were unveiled, some of which are genuine firsts for Mobile VoIP. Also the fringing freedom concept was explained to both consumers and potential partners.
