fring linux looks neat
This is a screenshot of the dial pad for fring’s new linux offering, namely fring for Linux version (1.2.1.63) . Another addition is a history TAB.
It’s a neat looking addition for a neat new tool.

fring family just got bigger
fring keeps the firsts coming. This year fring pioneered mobile VoIP for the apple iPhone. Then the release of the fringAPI planted the seeds for a growing ‘ecosystem‘ of fring Add-Ons. But the fring team aren’t relaxing. Now they’ve gone for the hat trick…
“We are really excited to release fring for JavaME (J2ME) & Linux. ..”
fring is breaking down the barriers, and it is now bringing the world’s most popular open source systems into the family.
“…We also welcome Linux users with full fring features including internet calls, chat, presence, file transfer and more and some unique features..”
And the fring family is big. There are as many as a thousand handset models now supported. And to top that off, fring is working hard to extend the benefits of the fringAPI to the whole, now extended, family.
“…The fringAPI we released last month will also apply to Java ME devices soon, so all the great apps developers around the world are working on will be available in the fringAdd-ons catalog for the hundreds of supported Java ME devices too! “
Phew! That’s a lot to report. But there’s more…
“…We’ve created a special version called minifring for the popular Java ME phones that don’t yet support voice over IP calling…”
Anyone from a big family knows that keeping up with new members and family news can seem like a full time job. But the fring team has made that easy too. For a full list of fring friendly devices see here. And to see what the unique fring features of that special handset are, you can see the whole family tree here.
fring Add-ons to your mobile life
What do Facebook, Gmail notifier, Orkut, vTap and Yandex.mail notifier all have in common?
They are amongst the first of many applications to suppy fring Add-Ons. fring Add-Ons are applications built with the great new fringAPI.
Here’s an example. Want to keep in touch with, say, your Facebook friends from your phone? Well if you have a Sony Ericsson -UIQ, Windows Mobile or Nokia Symbian 9 smartphone, and the latest version of fring, you can install the latest fring Add-On as easily as one - two - three. Or to be more exact…
“To get on with fringAdd-ons, go Options> settings>manage add-ons select the ones you want and your favorite apps will be always-on and always mobile via fring…” (Source)
There are some screen shots of some of the fring Add-Ons here, and a video introduction right below in our previous post.

fring Add-ons - the movie!
Remember our recent discussion about the new fring API? Applications built with the fringAPI are known as fring Add-ons. To find out more see fring’s latest video…
hAPIness is a warm fringAPI
Here’s the latest news across the fringdom, fring has just released fringAPI will free developers to unleash their creativity and launch new “fringAdd-ons”.
One of the engines of creativity behind the “Web 2.0″ world is the API . To read more on how APIs free developers to create new web infrastructure, see the article here. Now fring is freeing up the power and freedom of APIs too. You can read more at the fring main blog here.
Hang on to your hats fringsters, this is going to be a fun trip for all of us!
