fringAPI shares fringing freedom with web developers

Hey, big news from fring for all you developer guys & girls!

We’ve just released the fringAPI, opening the fring core network and mobile client, letting basically anyone to develop & deploy almost any web application to the fring community.

This means that any of these new apps developed by you guys is automatically enhanced with fring core functionality including presence, talk, chat, file transfer, auto-roaming and all the rest of it. (i.e. the API provides access to fring client GUI with web browser extensions and basic phone functions).
Not bad off the starting block!

So where do you start? We’ve opened a new developer site where you’ll find the fringAPI documentation and a simple fringAdd-on example. You just need a working knowledge of XML and basic server-side language (e.g. PHP, JSP, ASPX) in order to leverage the API capabilities.

Important! in the coming weeks we will release several examples of fringAdd-ons for users to play with, the full catalog with all the new developed fringAdd-ons will become available around end of July (meaning any add-on you develop from today will be available for all the fring community for end of July).
Second, currently the fringAPI is available for fring client on the Symbian S60 9.2 only, more platform to come shortly.

It’s easy, its liberating and its fringing fun!

Good luck! Go mobile! See you on the other side!

Fring API sounds like a great opportunity for developers. However, Fring should clearly state what is their offering for developers. Can Fring offer a valid business model for developers? Since Fring is about to deploy Ads in its clients (hear Boaz Zilberman on ttp://www.voipuser.org/btn/interview_101.html) - would they allow developers to advertise on their application tab and keep the profit or share the revenue? Would Fring allow subscription based services to be installed and revenue share the subscription fee with the developer? Are there any other business models Fring can offer its developers? Developing cool applications for Fring will increase usage and allow Fring to attract more advertisers. But developing an application for Fring costs time and money for developers (or their investors), and so they should know what can they look for in return. Fring guys - please tell the world what is your offering to the developer community? Thanks!
