The Australian fring community just got a whole lot bigger with the newly released Windows Mobile version of fring! fringsters can now enjoy free mVoIP calls, instant messaging and real time presence on over 300 Windows Mobile phones and pocket PCs devices.The Windows Mobile version of fring will work great with some of the new Windows Mobile devices available in Australia such as the Dopod 838Pro that runs Windows Mobile 5.0 and is available on 3’s X-Series capped data plans ($40 for 2Gb per month!).

The Windows Mobile edition of fring supports both version 5.0 and 6.0 devices, so now fringsters can choose to communicate for free between fring, Skype®, Google Talk™, MSN® Messenger, hundreds of SIP providers and twitter™ on Windows Mobile phones and pocket PCs in addition to Nokia devices over any 3G, GPRS or Wi-Fi Internet connection. With fring, many Wi-Fi enabled but SIM-less Windows Mobile PDAs now effectively function as open VoIP phones. Like all fring supported devices, Internet access is leveraged to make VoIP phone calls, hold multiple live chat sessions and also make VoIP enabled PSTN phone calls through SkypeOut or hundreds of SIP-based applications like GizmoProject, VoipCheap, VoipStunt and FWD, among others. fring spotted at Mobile Monday Sydney

fring was seen being demonstrated at the June Mobile Monday Sydney event on a Nokia N90! Mobile Monday Sydney (http://www.mobilemondaysydney.com ) held an open microphone evening that allowed anyone from the audience to present about their mobile product, service or company. Shane Williamson, co-founder of Mobile Monday Sydney, demonstrated fring and how it could be used on either a Wi-Fi or 3G data connection to make mobile VoIP (mVoIP) calls.

The fring demonstration showed how a person’s existing mobile phone contacts could be used directly through the fring application with their Skype & Google Talk contacts to make a standard mobile call. Using the “fring test call” contact users can easily hear how good their connection to the service is by leaving a 10 second test message and the fring service plays it back to them.
