Vodacom brings the iPhone to South Africa

South Africans this morning woke up to the news that the iPhone will officially be on sale in South Africa by 20 July 2008.

Vodacom has confirmed that the iPhone will arrive in South Africa as part of the ten-country deal that Vodafone signed earlier this year with Apple. It also looks as if our friends over in Australia will get the iPhone a month before us on June 29. How fair is that?

Today will also see Steve Jobs introduce the all new “3G” iPhone at this years Apple Worldwide Developer Conference. The conference starts in a few hours and all eye’s are on this conference to see how many of the rumors that have been flooding the internet are true.

One rumor that got me curious is the $200 ( R1600.00) iPhone however I doubt that rumor has any truth, it sure is going to be interesting to see if I am wrong? Looking at current pricing in South Africa I estimate that we will see the all new iPhone for around R8000.00 locally ($1000.00) Lets hope I am wrong!
