Rechargeable batteries powered by USB
Yearly more than 15 billion batteries are thrown away by global users, causing untold environmental damage.
With the increasing demand for portable power this environmental problem is only getting bigger and bigger.
This is where Simon Daniel and Chris Wright of Moixa Energy Ltd enter the picture. Their mission is to “invent and deliver technologies that provide consumers with better solutions for their mobile or home power requirements that are more usable, economic and environmentally friendly.”
They have introduced these NiMH AA cells that can be used just like ordinary AA batteries and are easily recharged by plugging them into any USB port.

Available from about R155.00 these batteries make a really cool gift.
Here’s a sneak peek of the future product releases from USBCELL.

$10 000.00 for first cellphone call from the moon
Lunar explorers listen up, if you are traveling to the moon on or before Wednesday January 7, 2015 remember to take your mobile phones with you.
Younevercall.com is offering a small but nice bonus for the first moon walker who makes a phone call from the moon to their offices in LA. “The call must utilize a commercially available cell phone and the caller must be available at the time to answer a few yes/no questions.” Gizmodo
This may just be a clever marketing scam, but hey what the heck if you happen to be on the moon, give it a try.
I would personally recommend using fring to make the call as your mobile operator will probably charge you a million bucks per minute for such a long distance call.
An amazing T-shirt
While surfing the net recently I came across this totally mind boggling T-Shirt at Tqualizer.biz
If space age is your thing then the T-qualizer is what you need. The glowing equalizer on the T-qualizer dynamically changes with any ambient sound or music. I wonder if this would work when using the all new fringtones.

Product Features
- EL Lit Glowing Equalizer animates to ambient noise or music
- Battery Pack fits in small interior pocket inside shirt
- Each Equalizer bar reacts differently depending on sound frequency
- 4 AAA Batteries Required
- Battery pack is removable, shirt must be hand washed
This T-Shirt is available for only $39.99 at thinkgeek.com
I personally can’t wait to see a fring T-shirt that does this.
$30 Million Moon mission “powered by Google”
Google the worlds largest search engine is going big really BIG with the launch of what is probably the most exciting competition on earth. The competition is open to all, with no exceptions, so lets hope a South African team enters.
“First prize is $20m for the group that can land a lunar rover - an unmanned robotic probe - on the moon, take it on a 500m trek and broadcast video back to Earth by December 31 2012.” News24
Lets see who gets there first. Visit xprize.org for more info.
Samsung takes 3 places in Guinness World Records 2008
Samsung has successfully made it into the Guinness world record 2008 edition, not once, not twice buy three times! WOW. With 5.9mm the Samsung SGH-U100 holds the current Guinness record of the World’s thinnest mobile phone.
The Samsung SCH-B600 holds the Guinness record for the highest photo resolution in a mobile phone. The SCH-B600 has a 10MP resolution. The B600 was actually introduced back in 2006, but there is apparently no mobile phone with a higher resolution out there yet.
The Samsung SGH-Z370 is the world’s thinnest 3G mobile phone measuring 8.4mm. i4u.com
Funny thing is that by the time you get your copy of Guinness World Records the record would probably already have been broken several times.
So if you haven’t already got your copy of Guinness world Records pop over to kalahari.net and get it while its still HOT, the hard copy is only R179.31 locally.

Google goes mobile
Have you Googled with your mobile? This is what our Australian fring friends asked readers recently and this is why.
“Google has got some great Googling features for using on your cellphone.” So if like me you are a Google addict “Point your mobile Internet browser to http://mobile.google.com and check out the different features that Google has created for the mobile device.”
On Google Mobile you can,
- Search using Google and it returns a mobile safe version of your search results.
- Perform a mobile web search for sites that have a mobile version of their website.
- Search on images (and add them as a wallpaper)
- Search local listings and get driving directions and map locations
- Access to your Gmail account
- Access to local Google news
Skype chat virus
“The new week has started with a bang. And not the kind of bang we like.” This was Skype’s reaction to a nasty little Virus that affected thousands of Skype users worldwide today.
The virus now called “w32/Ramex.A” is affecting users of Skype for Windows.
The Skype heartbeat went on to say:
“When a Skype user receives the chat message — either from their Skype contacts or users not on their contact list — it includes an internet link. Instead of a .jpg image that it seems to point to, the link actually leads to a virus file. By clicking on the link, the Windows Run/Save dialog box will pop up, asking for permission to save or run a .scr file. This is the virus file and should not be downloaded or run.
If the user accepts the file, however, their Windows PC will be infected with the w32/Ramex.A virus. The worm uses Skype’s public Application Program Interface (API) to access the PC.
Users whose computers are infected with this virus will send a chat message to other Skype users asking them to click on a web link that can infect the computer of the person who receives the message.”
The best way to kill this virus is to update and run your computers anti-virus software, by now most good anti-virus providers will have a cure for the worm.
For more info please visit the Skype heartbeat
fring users will be happy to know this virus doesn’t affect them while they are using fring. However better safe than sorry.
