Smooth fring chatting on the iPodtouch
Following the awesome success of fring on iPhone and the many users who also downloaded fring onto their iPod touch (even though it was not designed for it), you asked and we delivered… fring has been tweaked for smoother, better chat on the iPod touch! (using the iPhone version….lol)

Just like the original version created for the iPhone, this is the same special pre-release R&D version with some chat bugs fixed so now you can mobile internet chat & interact in fring-style on your iPod touch (I know I am stating the obvious… but as there is no Microphone the iPod touch…. it means no fring calls as well).
More info on what you get and how to get fring for iPhone & iPodtouch at the fringcubator (fring lab).

P.S. Thanks for your flood of requests pushing us to optimize fring for iPhone so it works better on the iPod touch too - please keep your suggestions and feedback coming! We love the challenge and our R&D team doesn’t really need to sleep anyway
1 Million Toy cellphones recalled
This just in - ” Miami-based Kids Station Toys International Ltd” is recalling 1 million Little Tikes Chit ‘N Chat toy cell phones. “The agency said the hinge cover on the Chinese-made toys can detach from the phone, posing a choking hazard to young children.”
Guys if you have little ones it would be advisable to double check your kids toys and make sure your kids don’t have access to this device.
Robinson Crusoe comes to South Africa
Here’s a bit of local entertainment news:
It is being reported that the new NBC TV series “Robinson Crusoe” is about to start production in South Africa.
“Sam Neill, Sean Bean, Philip Winchester, Joss Ackland and Anna Walton will be in South Africa between June and October filming a new Robinson Crusoe TV series. The series which is written by Stephen Gallagher and directed by Duane Clark will play out in one of South Africa’s most beautiful nature reserves and filming is scheduled between June - October 2008.
The NBC premiere has been confirmed for October 17 from 8-10pm. ”
Good news for both local and international readers is that the series will be broadcast over the internet, so for a change we will get to watch the content that was filmed in our country. I wonder if someone has told NBC they should broadcast it to mobile handsets, I am sure many South Africans and others will pay a few bucks to watch a great series via their mobile handsets.
Seeing that the South African set is located within walking distance from my home I will pop down every now and then and see if I can snap a few pictures.

This is the location where alot of the action will be filmed.

Kenwoods response kettle
Ever year in South Africa hundreds of children are burned as a result of accidental exposure to boiling water.
This brings me to todays not so mobile gadget, and may I say this gadget rocks. Although it isn’t the latest invention from Kenwood, it could possibly be the best one. Instead of waiting for a kettle to boil and whistle, Kenwoods response kettle changes colour thus showing the temperature of the contents.
Even though this great new feature provides a much needed safety boost when it comes to kettles, it is still up to parents to educate their children regarding safety when it comes to handling boiling water.
No word on when this great new product will be available in South Africa but watch this space for progress.
Mobile phones harming unborn babies!
A recent study by both the UCLA and Aarhus University has shown that using a cellphone while pregnant can drastically increase the chances of giving birth to children with behavioural problems.
The study went on to show that “Mothers who used mobile phones while pregnant were 54% more likely to have children with behavioral problems” it went on to say that “if the kids then had their own mobiles before the age of seven, they were 80% more likely to suffer with these problems.” Pocketpicks
These are very scary statistics and all I can say is give your mobile handset a break while you are pregnant!
South Africans can kiss TomTom goodbye?
According to Lesley Stones “owners of TomTom satellite navigation systems may find themselves lost and looking for an alternative as the sole distributor Core ends its deal to import and support the products.”.
“Core director RJ van Spaandonk said the Dutch manufacturer had repeatedly let SA down by failing to deliver enough of the vehicle navigation devices, not supplying the most recent maps, and providing no advertising budget.”
Core currently has “enough stock to fill orders retailers have placed, and would conduct a handover once TomTom either appointed a new distributor or set up a direct presence here, he said. ” Mybroadband.co.za
This is sad news for South Africans as TomTom added good competition to the local market and had really helped to bring down the rate of GPS units in South Africa. It is really hoped TomTom can sort this thing out before it’s to late.
