GoogleTalks your language and fring delivers

Здравствуйте. Добро пожаловать в Южную Африку.

Ok, So I don’t really speak Russian, but thanks to GoogleTalk and the wonders of modern technology I can now have a conversation with someone who has never spoken a word of English in his life using GoogleTalk and a great new translation bot that works through GoogleTalk. The translation bot automatically translates between various languages and sends them via IM. “For those not familiar with bots, a (ro)bot is a piece of software that acts as a chat contact and provides some fun or useful functionality.” GoogleTalk Blog

The good news for fringsters is that you can now turn your mobile phone into a mobile pocket translator. This is especially useful when traveling.

If you want to try this great new service, just add [ en2fr@bot.talk.google.com ] as a friend in Google Talk and send it a message to translate from English to French.

For additional languages use “[from language]2[to language]@bot.talk.google.com” the short codes are as follows: ar2en, de2en, de2fr, el2en, en2ar, en2de, en2el, en2es, en2fr, en2it, en2ja, en2ko, en2nl, en2ru, en2zh, es2en, fr2de, fr2en, it2en, ja2en, ko2en, nl2en, ru2en, zh2en. So, for French to German translation, talk to fr2de@bot.talk.google.com.

fring adds N81,N82,N95 8Gig handsets; WISPr & history for UIQ

Two months ago we brought you WISPr for Symbian handsets.

We promised that WISPr support was soon to follow for UIQ handsets and for all those waiting for support, wait no more - WISPr for UIQ has arrived!!

For those of you who missed the last post: With WISPr, fringsters can seamlessly roam within Wi-Fi networks, even in uncharted Wi-Fi territory!

The other great thing about WISPr is that fring can now be used to enable smoother and quicker mobile web browsing, as your login credentials, once previously entered, will be stored inside your browser. Simply start fring, enter a Wi-Fi zone, launch your mobile browser, and you’re online!

To activate fring auto-roaming or WISPr (if you are already auto-roaming), just go to options –> settings –> connection manager –> search for WLAN. Choose a Wi-Fi network and enter your credentials.

Who can auto-roam with fring? fring now auto-roams on supported Symbian 9.1 & 9.2 and UIQ devices including some new additions so download or upgrade to this auto-roaming version now.

Along with this update comes the support of a few extra handsets.
fring welcomes Nokia N81, 82 and N95 8Gig to the fring party.

This news is so hot the phones are not yet on the download list (yet) but users can choose any other symbian 9 handset (N95 for example) and they’ll get the right version.

Symbian 9.1 & 9.2 users will also be happy to know that fring has been working hard to iron out bugs and they have now released V3.24.16, Get it while its hot!
