Around The World For Free - Season 2

Monday, June 28th, 2010

fringsters listen up:

The online/broadcast hybrid reality series Around The World For Free is back, bigger and better than ever before.

In 2007 we closely followed Alex Boylan, winner of The Amazing Race 2, as he traveled around the world without any money. Alex was followed by one cameraman Zsolt Luka who filmed, edited and produced the entire show from the road. Alex relied entirely on local guides and inhabitants for basic needs. His trip Around The World For Free took him through 16 Countries over 159 Days and he clocked more than 45000 Miles.

Here are a few extracts from season 1 of the show featuring your local fring blogger and two other well known South African Bloggers, CharlVN and Jayx.

  1. Season 1: Day 77
  2. Season 1: Day 78

This year thanks to CBS, the show is back with a new host, Amazing Race 16 and Big Brother 11 star Jeff Schroeder. The plan? Travel around the world in 100 days, with nothing more than a backpack and help from the online community.

atwff2So what are you waiting for, tune in to CBS and get ready for season2. Remember you control the show, so get involved, talk, chat and interact with the guys as they travel Around The World For Free.

Crowdfund making waves in South Africa

Monday, April 5th, 2010

Crowdfunding, the first crowd funded Angel investment agency of it’s kind in South Africa made history last week by raising just over R1 million in Angle VC within only a few days, Proving yet again that South Africa is alive with possibilities.

The money pledged by 229 investors will be used to fund 10-20 small techno startups in South Africa. This is the chance of a lifetime for many local startups wishing to prove to the world that their idea is The Next BIG Thing!

The fund which continues to grow is currently standing on R1,035,000 from 315 investors. Apparently the first 1000 investors to pledge will be accepted. So if you havn’t jumped on the bandwagon yet there is still chance of getting in before it’s to late.

Your local fring blogger, yeah thats still me, has already submitted 4 idea’s for funding and I will keep you guys posted on developments on this front. I am happy to say that the Crowdfund has once again brought hope to many small garage startups in South Africa who have been suffering to scrape together funds to keep their dreams alive.

I am excited to announce that very shortly a few of these startups will have the priviledge, no the honour, to take their dreams to new hights. May the best fringing team be granted funding and guys when you make it to the big time, never forget to help those dreamers still trying in a garage or backroom near you.

Friday, February 13th, 2009

The boys and girls over at Nerdmag.co.za recently ran a post entitled “10 people you should be following on Twitter“. After a few small edits the list grew to 14 people to follow and the most amazing thing is that your local fring blogger happened to be on the list ;-)

According to the founder of Nerdmag though: “Nerd Mag is all about whats going on online currently.” This can mean only one thing, currently your local fring blogger is one of the people you should be following on titter hehe. So what are you waiting for, start following me today before I slip off the list ;-)

On a serious note, it’s an honor to be included in your list guys, thanks for the mention.

The nerdies 2009 - which is the brain child of Sheena Gates, better known online as Shebeegee, Aims to find the sexiest South African Nerdy NomNom for the 2009. Your local fring blogger who btw goes by the alias SimonB has made the first round of voting by beating guys like Vernon Koekemoer the South African legend, Vernon wasn’t to happy with it and tried to Koekemoer me in the dressing room earlier, but hey such is life. Anyway we are now in the last voting round and Vernon you never made it hahaha.

If you guys think the local fring dude smells worse than Mike Stopforth the current leader, then head over to the polls and cast your vote.

In conclustion I would like to quote from Mike’s blog, The #nerdies09 has “been a really cool way to start off the year - not taking life too seriously!”

Ok go cast your vote already
