Mobile Number Portability has arrived - About Time!

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

The long and most awaited freedom for us mobile users in India will be acquired in couple days from now. The Indian mobile phone consumer is now going to soon be free to choose any service provided without the need to change his/her mobile number. Yes! Mobile Number Portability is here!

MNP

The first state to get MNP will be Haryana and over the next couple of months MNP would spread throughout the country, said officials from the Department of Telecom. The charges for MNP service is set to a maximum of Rs.19 - that’s damn cheap. Another thing to keep in mind about MNP is that even though a subscriber is free to keep switching service providers as many times as he/she wishes to; they would have to stay for 3months with an operator. While many operators are excited about MNP finally launching like the ads below of Idea; others operators are going to find it tough holding on to their customer base. This is going to be the new era of Mobile Service in India - I’m just keen to see the tariff wars explode and we as consumers benefit not just in terms of charges but also in terms of quality of service.

Idea MNP Campaign

This is going to be reason most people will use MNP services.
