Using fring API with Windows Mobile Emulator

1. Download Windows Mobile Emulator (Choose the professional edition)

2. Make sure you have ActiveSynce on your computer or download and install on your computer. You’ll need this in order to connect your emulator to the internet.

3. Activate the Emulator - Go to your start menu on your PC, choose programs, windows mobile 6 SDK, Standalone Emulator Images, US English and your preferred emulator.

4. After the emulator opens up on your screen, turn on the ActiveSync .

5. Turn on the Device Emulator Manager - Go to programs, Windows mobile 6 SDK, tools, Device Emulator Manager.

6. On the Device Emulator Manager you’ll see a tree. On the “Others “you will see representation of the emulator you are using. Right click on it and press “Cradle”.

7. Connect the ActiveSync with your emulator. Choose File - Connection settings – Connect and the wizard will take you through.

8. Open the internet browser on the emulator. Go to fring.com and download fring. Double click that file and follow the instructions to install fring.

9. One of the important thing we have to do now is define specific IMEI ((International Mobile Equipment Identity) for your emulator. In order to do so, download Regedit utility to your computer.

10. Go to the active sync program, copy the Regedit file into that library.

11. Go to the emulator, file explorer, my documents and double click the exe file.

12. Open the RegEdit tool.

13. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, by selecting the file and joystick in, choose software and then choose fring. Press the value button, choose menu, new value, string.

14. Change the value name to IMEI.

15. In the value data field fill 15 numbers and list them down since you’ll need to use this number.

16. Now you can go to the fring developers site and register new add-on (You have to sign in to the developers site or create new account).

The only field you need to fill are:

  • Add-on name- it's important that your choose a unique name.
  • Add-on category - you can always change this field latter.
  • Callback URL - you can fill any string you wish at this time.
  • IMEI - this is the most important field, fill the same IMEI you entered to the RegEdit.

17. Go back to the emulator and make sure you have exit fring application.

18. Go to program file library and restart fring, make sure it is loading from scratch.

19. On fring application, go to the add-ons tab.

20. You’ll frind there two new add-ons:

  • Add-on builder – This tool that will help you get the first impression of an add-on. To learn how to use it click here.
  • Your new add-on - with the name you have just picked (which currently does nothing).

21. Now you are ready to get the first experiance with the fring API by following the add-on builder step by step guide.

22. You are can also set the “Hello World” Example with the emulator by following the quick start guide.
