What & Why an EDGE phone
Why do you need to opt for an EDGE-ready phone? Well, for us Indian, it really doesn’t matter much. Most Indians don’t yet connect to the internet through our mobile phones & even the few who do are happy with GPRS. It’s inhuman for us to not want more! As humans, we have a greedy tendency. Therefore, I will give you a reason to why being greedy is good.
Well EDGE is the ‘more’ to GPRS. It gives you the edge over a GPRS connetion in terms of speed. With GPRS speed is limited to only 32Kbps while over EDGE the speeds of up to 256Kbps can be attained. Well you must be thinking that it’s going to cost you more; not at all. Let me break the ice for ya’ll. It depends more on your service provider. The network you are on must support EDGE. At the moment service providers Hutch & Airtel support EDGE (Please inform us if there are other networks that support EDGE). If you are on these two networks you’ll already be enjoying surfing the internet through your phone. All you have to do is activate GPRS and your phone will automatically choose EDGE over GPRS.
This should be good news to my fringster friends, this is one way of cutting down the lag time when on a call. So when buying or upgrading your handset just make sure it supports EDGE and if your network can provide you that ‘EDGE’.
