New iPhone/iPod version: New look, profiles, copy paste and links
fring’s latest iPhone & iPod touch version(2.0.0.4) is now available on the App Store, with a new look, more integration between social networks, improved voice and much more!
The new version includes a new user profile, which allows you to update your fring nickname, avatar and mood text, and broadcast it back to your IM friends. You can also see your friends’ avatars and mood texts from other networks – currently on Skype, others coming soon.
You can also now use SkypeOut & SIP to call your friends directly from the fring address book with a much clearer line thanks to our voice team’s big effort to improve voice quality!
If that’s not enough we added- copy/paste & linking capabilities to save you time while chatting away with your friends and speakerphone support for all voice calls.
German users, we got some great news for you too - fring on iPhone/ iPod touch is also now available in your native language!
As you can see, we’ve been busy fringbees – improving features, introducing new capabilities and always staying ahead of the pack to continue being the ultimate social community hub for your iPhone/ iPod touch.
So go get the new version today and as always, feedback is much appreciated!
The fringTEAM

Seems the keypad doesn’t work durring a call.
Otherwise, this seems to be the best voip app for the iPhone.

Hm, I’m from germany and I added my skype account. I can see the mood text of my friends - but they can’t see mine, even if I change the settings (fring mood message) - if I change the two buttons to “on” they can only see that I’m online on Skype with http://www.fringcall.com... they can’t see my userpicture, too. Do others have the same problems?

When I closed my FRING APP, the connection don’t go down, very good! But is possible as other competitors applications left my connection ON LINE for 5minuts to receive pop-up notification and after 5 minutes Fring will go OFFLINE?
I ask for this, because some time I left my fring open or I left my Iphone on desk with fring open but I don’t use it.

I agree that it would be VERY helpful to have a push notification to tell the user when Fring has logged them out.
I use Fring because of the longer login time after you exit the Fring application (6-8 hours). However, I’m never really sure if I’m logged in or not later in the day becasue I’m not notified when Fring logs me out.
Friends will tell me later in the day that I was not logged into gtalk or skype. If Fring would push a notification to me telling me when I was logged out, I would simply log back into Fring to start the 6 to 8 hours of login time again.

Hi,
I recently reinstalled fring to see what was what. Looks nice, guys.
Only problem is when I try to add-on a gmail account, it tells me my password is incorrect. And it isn’t. I’ve typed it multiple times. Aim/Yahoo worked fine, though. (I did try to restart the phone to the same result.)
I tried it just my gmail username and tried the whole email address as well. Any thoughts?

Try changing your gmail password and retrying the add on- that may work

OMG! New version STILL will not allow special characters in the password. But the WindowsMobile version does. So, my account is not and will never be usable on my iphone. I have to create a whole new account. GRRRR. PLEASE fix this inconsistency. Or better yet, let us go to the website and change our password! Pretty please???

Hello, love the new look but… even after a phone restart I can’t click any of the add-ons and there is no settings tab… SIP and Skype are fine but with no add-ons working I can’t add my MSN acc. and the lack of a settings tab (even tho it’s listed in “help”) means I can’t switch off push. Even tried to edit the tab layout to try to find settings but it doesn’t show up

My wife has Iphone and I have a Windows mobile. We have installed Fring on both. It seems that she can not call SIP and SkypeOut to regular phones iver 3G, but I can on my Windows version. Is it really how things are? Why? If so, sits the Iphone restriction in the phone, in the application or with the network company?

Hai Fring team,
Came across this application by the word of mouth. Good one as it integrates twitter and face book. However my mobile is an HTC Touch 3G. The version I was able to download on my mobile was not as good as the one you have hosted on this site for the iphone. Would like to know if you could release a similar version for windows based mobiles as well.
Thanks,
JJ

I use the SIP client vbuzzer to make calls through Fring. My phone book has U.S. phone nos. as 001 plus the no. Whereas vbuzzer needs you to put just 1 before the no. There is no way to edit the beginning of the no. while dialing so I have to keep the no. on a piece of paper and dial without accessing my phonebook. Pl. try to solve this issue.

Useful just as another chat client.. no thanks.
Video chat would be useful if the iphone had a camera pointed at the user on the screen side. You can’t look at the screen and be seen so whats the point - loses the whole cool factor of being able to see each other.

Mood text is the equivalent to the status line (i.e. “Using fring” or “what a beautiful morning” etc.)
You don’t have to fill this field, you go ahead with the registration.
