iPhone new version in the App Store Now
Just a quick shout to let all of you iPhone & iPod touch fringsters know that there’s a new version of fring in the App Store with some extra functionality you guys asked for, providing an even smoother fringing experience.
You can now choose whether to show or hide your Offline contacts and regular GSM buddies. And for convenience, we’ve moved fring settings to the general iPhone settings, so there’s no need to open fring each time you want to make a small change.
You’ll also notice a small flag symbol in the top left hand corner of the dialer screen, Tap this and you’ll get a list of countries. Select the one you’re calling and the International dial code will automatically be entered making overseas Skype Out and SIP calls even easier.

We’re also just finishing off a notification add-on for this version. This add-on will notify you when your friends are trying to connect with you whilst your fring is closed. This of course includes all the different services (Skype, MSN, Google talk etc)
To make this as useful as possible, we are conducting a gradual roll-out, starting with the UK and US. This service will eventually be in line with Apple’s 3.0 firmware and new notification feature.
You can download fring’s new version here.
Continue to give us your great feedback, and we’ll continue to make fring even better!
[Update]: For thos of you who can not find the privacy settings… We moved the settings screen to the iPhone’s main settings menu. So just click on ‘Settings’ from the main springborad -> scroll down -> fring.

We need Fring for Google phones. Your fasination with iPhones is understandable but the Google Platform will out number iPhones in less than 1 year. the android community is growing and the amount of phones expected this year are numerous from ALL the major manufacturers like Matorola, Samsung, HP, Dell etc etc.
Please fring we need you on G1

The SIP and Skype functions could be better. I love fring but the latency over sip is terrible. Nimbuzz and SipPhone fixed that for me tho. All in all I love fring.

Great! Don’t waste your time programming for Google’s Android & Symbian platforms. These are dead end platforms. For example, if Android is so good why aren’t there any other Android phones? And Symbian’s base code will need to be completely revamped to compete against the iPhone.

What kind of a comment is that?. The iPhone is a toy. If it was any good i would have bought one a long time ago. The only phone in the world where you can’t remove the battery, what will you do when your battery can’t take a charge anymore?. Oh, and don’t forget all the other bad things about this iCrap. Symbian and Nokia will always be better so be quiet fan boy.

Don’t want to start a flame war here, but stating that the iPhone is a toy can only come from ignorance.
Having owned several winmo’s (HTC Diamond, HTC HD etc) and Symbian (Sony Ericsson W600i, i68 etc) I can say that the iPhone is less of a toy then any other phone I’ve had.
Indeed is the first phone that I can use every single feature every single day since it works smoothly and 99.999% flawlessly.
Cheers, Nuno

The privacy settings have disappeared. (iPod touch 1G)
There are still still wrong statements in your help, that state, that fring doesn’t work with iPod touch 1G.
Fring works great with an external microphone (macally).

The latest update has been an improvement for the previous buggy version. Now I can login smoothly.. I like the alert sound but couldn’t it be better if a user has an option to disable both alert and/or vibrate? Just not a mature update yet. Hope more options and features from Fring! thanks…

Just encountered and noticed that the web address received via Fring is not any active link that user can click on it to go to the website. I see this as a basic and convenient function to have in Fring.
Secondly, can we have Facebook chat in Fring too?

you guys are on a suicide mission if you think anyone would seriously consider even just partially replace normal cell phone network connections with yours,….if you are not going to fix this absolutely absurd “being switched on” feature…
who in their right frame of mind wants to get an email in order to see if someone is just trying to call him ??
if you go out there and advertise an “always ON” feature, than damn have your software actually be “always “ON” in the background for example, and let your software freaking ring when someone is calling… so i can pick up and talk to that person.even if its not in the foreground.
its like getting a fax from someone so i am notified that “NOW” someone is going to be calling me on my landline.
how about firing that guy at your shop who came up with this utterly useless idea?!?!
these things are technically easily do-able guys…
go and get the bussiness you deserve, for your idea is a great one, but pleeaassee do not get sloppy right now, sooooooo short before you can win this VOIP thing race
sincerely

Dear Fring, I would like to thank you for your really wonderful fring on my iPhone. I would like to ask you if you can add any or both of sms messaging and real caller ID on next fring since those feature exist in VOIP like lowrate and actionVoip and i use them from my laptop thru their client.
anyway, thanks for all your efforts and wish you more success.

Working great, much smoother connections and stable Skype calls! (Better than the Skype app anyways) Thanks for the update…
I think the next most important feature would be to include touch tone dialpad during calls. This is very important for Google voice users and anyone that wants to check their voice mail with fring.
Thanks again, keep up the great work!

The new version is quite useless since it doesnot address the following problems:
1) iPhone users ( unlike Symbian phone users like Nokia E71) still can’t make voice calls using the GPRS on their phones
2) In Fring for iPhone there is no way to delete the Call History , so if your spouse or frends are browsing through your FRING They will know who you spoke to and when and how many times. Shame shame. You can delete this history in the Symbain version
3) This is a big shame that on privacy FRING has not done much. In any of the FRING version, there is no Password protection. What I mean is that they must enable Fring launch thru a unique password, which should enable the user to USE FRING. a lot of times, if someone gets my phone, all they need to do is click on FRING and they are able to USE it. This should be prevented.
I hope you guys are listening.

Hi,
1. Voice calls over 3G/GPRS is something that is not permitted by Apple. There’s not much we can do about it. Sorry.
2. The ‘Clear history’ function was added to this version as requested by many users. See screenshot above.
3. The iPhone version works just like the other versions: You have your fring user name and password, you register once and fring should always remember the password unless you uninstall of course. I understand what you’re saying, we’ll consider it for future versions.
4. Yes, we’re always here, listening

Home the next version comes with push notification for the iPhone (soon). I don’t use Fring (or any IMs) becouse they have to be running all the time in order to work as they are suppose. The locks the use of the phone to a single application (can’t browse, send a twit, play a game etc at the same time).
Also the SIP feature of fring is not that good, hope it can be improved.
Great work so far. Congrats.

I just installed the latest version last night and while I find it great, I can’t hide my disappointment of finding out that one still can’t use the dialpad during a fring call. How many times does a user have to navigate through an automated system to check voice mail or call a person in an office? All that is needed is to be able to produce a tone of a particular pitch and intensity when the user presses a key on the dialpad. That shouldn’t be very hard, should it? If it hasn’t been done yet, there must be a reason. Does anyone know it?
